This beautiful modular shelving system by Poul Cadovius for Royal Systems from
the stalk-defining 50s is a true design classic. The modular shelving system
"Royal System" was designed as early as 1948 and won the gold medal at the
Finnish Furniture Fair in 1950 and the silver medal at the Milan XI Triennale
in 1957.
The shelf system offered consists of:
▪ 3 sidebars
Height: 99.0 cm
▪ 3 small shelves
Width: 80.0 cm
Depth: 20.0 cm
▪ 3 large shelves
Width: 80.0 cm
Depth: 24.0 cm
The shelving system can be put together individually according to your own
needs. The shelves have a magnificent elm wood veneer. All parts were treated
with linseed oil varnis. Due to the resulting patina and the age-typical traces
of usage, the shelving system retains a very special vintage charm and
character. They are intentional and testify to originality. Smaller veneer
damage and scratches are present.

Poul Cadovius was a Danish designer and manufacturer who was born in
Frederiksberg in 1911. After his training in a saddlery and upholstery, he
founded his "Royal Systems" furniture factory in 1945. He was interested in
industrial design and had the idea of a modular, floating shelving system. In
1948 he designed the revolutionary Royal System shelving system.
Between 1964 and 1967, Poul Cadovius acquired the furniture factory Franke and
San and rebranded it as CADO. Franke & San was well known for its
industrialized production of teak furniture. Cadovius began working at CADO
with many well-known Danish designers, such as Arne Vodder, Grete Jalk, Edvard
Kindt-Larsen and Finn Juhl.
