This Antique Secretary Desk is a very unusual find in the antique market -- a
Governor Winthrop carved block front Chippendale desk isn’t that unusual
normally, but this is in a tiger sawn oak, with original finish to boot! For
every 100 mahogany slant top desks we get, we are fortunate to get 1 oak one.
This last month, I was fortunate to get 2! This desk has all the Chippendale
style pierce carved hardware, as well as the keyhole, still intact. The brass
gallery is all there. The supports pull out from the sides when you pull down
the slant top and it reveals the simplistic interior with two drawers. The desk
has never been touched inside. It has the typical scratches and wear and tear.
There are a few drops of paint where someone was painting. This would look
fantastic refinished as it has the alligator finish, where the finish as
stretched and shrunk over the years. There is no key. It has a block front
spade foot and a rope braided molding going down both front. It has plank
sides. Routed edge around all the block front drawers. The overall size is 30
inches wide, 17.5 inches deep, 31 inches high to the writing lid, 43 inches
high to the brass gallery, 40 inches high to the top of the desk. Shipping
